Butirra Precoce Morettini was bred in Florence, Italy, and is one of the most economically important pears grown in Europe since it's introduction in 1956. It is a relatively early pear, with a classic Bartlett-like shape and juicy, buttery fruit. I grow it for it's excellent flavour.
Like many European pears, it is best when picked while still green and slightly hard, and eaten 1-2 weeks after harvest. Excellent paired with nuts, cheese, jam.
Disease resistance: Moderately resistant to fire blight.
Parentage: Bartlett x Coscia, another Italian pear.
Rootstock: OHxF 87.
